Kids' Muay Thai kit: gloves, shorts and shin guards, and where to find each brand's size chart
Most clubs lend gloves at first; once a child sticks with it, they need gloves, hand wraps, a gum shield, a groin guard (boys) and later shin guards. Size each item on the brand's own children's chart; for example RDX lists its 1U Demo Kids Boxing Gloves in 4oz and 6oz at £17.99 (rdxsports.co.uk, read 2 Nov 2026).
Muay Thai Atlas never takes deposits or payments.
The kit list
- Gloves, in a children's weight. Ask the coach which weight the club uses.
- Hand wraps, a shorter junior length if you can find one.
- A gum shield that fits. Replace it as teeth change.
- A groin guard for boys. Ask the coach what girls should wear.
- Shin guards once partner kicking starts. They shouldn't slide round the leg.
- Shorts: any comfortable shorts to start.
Label everything. Most clubs lend gloves at first.
If your child competes later
Under IFMA rules (Rules and Regulations v3.057, May 2026, as summarised in our parents' guide): head guard, shin guards, elbow guards, gum shield and groin guard are compulsory for all competitors; age groups run in two-year bands from U8 (6 to 7) to U18 (16 to 17). Interclub hosts set their own junior rules. Ask the coach.
Brand size charts for children (links, not copies)
| Brand | Children's chart on its own site | What we could read |
|---|---|---|
| Fairtex | fairtex.com/pages/sizing-chart: "Kids' Boxing Shorts" and "#SPK9 Shin Pads for Kids" | Charts are images; we link them, we don't copy them (read 2 Nov 2026) |
| RDX | 1U Demo Kids Boxing Gloves page links a "Size Charts & Measurement Guide" | Chart is an image; the page lists 4oz and 6oz, no age range (read 2 Nov 2026) |
We don't print a size-by-bodyweight table, for adults or children, and we don't give sizes by age: the charts we could reach don't print them. Use the brand's chart and the coach's advice.
