Thai pads, belly pads, focus mitts and kick shields: what each is for, with UK prices

For kicks, knees and elbows a holder uses Thai pads (arm pads); for punches, focus mitts; for hard kicks from a beginner, a kick shield. In our shop data the lowest-priced dated items are RDX's Aura Plus T-17 focus pads at £39.99 and arm pads at £49.99 (RDX's own UK site, read 23 Oct 2026).

Which pad does what

PadHeld byUsed for
Thai pads (arm pads)the trainer, one on each forearmkicks, knees, elbows, teeps, punches
Focus mittsthe trainer, on the handspunches and fast combinations
Kick shielda partner, held flat against the bodyhard kicks and teeps; good when beginners hold for each other
Belly padthe trainer, worn round the waistteeps and knees to the body, so the holder can keep the Thai pads up

Thai pads and a belly pad need a trainer or a partner who knows how to hold. On your own at home, a heavy bag does more: heavy bags.

Questions

What pads do I need for Muay Thai at home?

On your own, a heavy bag. Pads need a holder: focus mitts for punches, Thai pads for kicks and knees, a kick shield if the holder is new.

How much are Thai pads in the UK?

In our data, the RDX Arm Pad Aura Plus T-17 is £49.99 on RDX's own UK site (read 23 Oct 2026); other RDX arm pads were from £53.99 (RDX Arm Pad T15) to £84.99 (RDX Arm Pad King) in RDX's catalogue (recorded 25 Sep 2026, not re-checked).

Where can I buy a belly pad in the UK?

We have no dated belly pad price yet. Look on the brand's own site or a named UK retailer.

Are focus mitts the same as Thai pads?

No. Focus mitts are worn on the hands for punches; Thai pads strap to the forearms and take kicks, knees and elbows.
