History of Muay Thai, from the sources
Nobody knows exactly when Muay Thai began: IFMA traces it to Pahuyuth, practised in the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya kingdoms, and says its true origins are lost in myth; Rajadamnern, Thailand's first permanent stadium, was established in 1945 (IFMA).

- Muay Thai Day. IFMA says fighters honour Nai Khanom Tom every 17 March. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (2 Feb 2026) says 6 February is the official National Muay Thai Day, honouring King Sanphet VIII. We show both.
- Nai Khanom Tom. IFMA calls the 1774 story a legend; some writers treat it as fact. We mark it as legend.
- Rings and timed rounds. IFMA credits King Chulalongkorn; Wikipedia gives a later order of events. We found no allowed source with a year for gloves becoming compulsory, so we give none.
- UNESCO. We found no UNESCO page listing Muay Thai. The Thai government said in March 2024 that the Cabinet had approved a nomination.
