Methodology

These ranks are an editorial selection from the Muay Thai Atlas gym file for this city. They are not a mathematical index and they are not a fresh scrape of Google. Every gym below appears in that file. Gyms outside the file were not added.

The same weights were used in every city:

• Muay Thai specialism (30). A programme built around Muay Thai ranks ahead of a general MMA, boxing, karate or jiu-jitsu school that lists Muay Thai as one class among several.
• Coaching pedigree (25). Named head coaches, Thai krus and documented lineages, taken from a gym website or a reputable article. Coaches who were not named on a page reviewed here are not guessed.
• Fight-team evidence (20). Titles, stadiums and results only where a cited page states them.
• Google rating and review volume (15). Copied from the source gym file, last verified 2026-09-28. They were not re-measured for this article.
• Beginner access and published price (10). Kids or beginner classes, and any price printed in the gym file or on a cited page.

A high review count does not by itself outrank a specialist gym with a documented coach. Where a city has fewer than ten gyms with a credible public footprint, the list is shorter.

1. Pure Heart Muay Thai

Area: El Cajon

Best for: fighters

Owner James Gregory is described as a 33-fight veteran and a coach of more than 20 amateur titles. Assistant coaches Melissa Nolan, Christian Rodriguez and Kory Jetter are named with fight counts, including Rodriguez's 45 amateur fights and 14 titles. The site says the competition team has travelled to six states, five countries and three continents, and it runs a youth team. That is the fullest fight-team page in the San Diego file. Best for: kids

Kru Mario Quinones is named as founder, with nearly 30 years of instruction, a USA Muay Thai Olympic coach credit and a WBC Muay Thai trainer credit on his own site. The programme trains at Southwestern College and also describes school and beginner classes. A personal win-loss record is not published. The gym file places it in Chula Vista.
