Printed rates below are gym prices, not a San Diego average. King Tiger Muay Thai, 7914 Ronson Road, Suite F, Kearny Mesa, invites a free class. Adults are $180 a month, military $150, and a day pass is $30. Three months are $480 and six are $900. Kids are $150 a month. A private is $150, with packs of 5, 10, and 20 at $700, $1,350, and $2,600. The page does not say how long a private lasts.

8Tribe charges $300 a month, with no contract, for 90-minute weekday classes at 5:30 p.m. One class is $50. Ages 8–13 are $200 a month. A 45-minute private with Ronnie Najjar is $180. The site says he has coached since 2004, is a former pro with 24 bouts, and was ranked No. 3 Australian cruiserweight by the World Muay Thai Council. Yelp lists 4030 Sports Arena Boulevard, Suite B, in Midway.

Pacific Roots Muay Thai, 9853 Pacific Heights Boulevard, Suite P, sells a first unlimited day for $20, usable within seven days, and prints no monthly rate. The team page lists nine 2024 titles, including a WBC World Games champion in Thailand, plus a 2025 US Muay Thai Open title in Arizona.

PTC Boxing Gym, 5755 La Jolla Boulevard, teaches boxing and Muay Thai in La Jolla’s Bird Rock. The first class is free. A day is $30, month to month is $160, and 12 months is $1,560. Privates are $105 for 45 minutes and $120 for 60.

The Arena, 3350 Sports Arena Boulevard in Point Loma, calls itself the largest combat-sports gym in North America, at 27,000 square feet. It offers 30 free days, lists Muay Thai sparring, and describes a popular unlimited plan as under $100 a month without printing the price. Call ahead.

Double Kick opened in March 2025. Yelp lists 7580 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, Kearny Mesa. A $49 intro is three classes plus gloves and wraps. The site calls Jessie Magusen a 56-fight, three-time title holder and Stephanie Tanguay a 10–0 WBC Muay Thai champion. No monthly rate is printed.

When to go

Classes are indoors. NOAA 1991–2020 normals for San Diego International Airport, Lindbergh Field (USW00023188), put January at 66.4°F by day and 50.3°F at night, with 1.98 inches of rain. August’s high is 77.3°F and rain is 0.01 inches. February is wettest at 2.20 inches. The year is 9.79 inches, on 40.3 days with at least 0.01 inches.

No weekly fight night appears in these sources. The International Kickboxing Federation lists San Diego on April 25, July 25, and November 7, 2026. Semi-contact point Muay Thai, with no knockouts, was at San Diego State’s PG-152 on June 27, 2026.

What it costs

Drop-ins here are $20, $30, or $50. King Tiger, PTC, and The Arena also advertise a free start. Monthly plans differ: $160 at PTC, $180 at King Tiger, and $300 for weekday Muay Thai at 8Tribe. The Arena’s “under $100” line is not a rate card. Pacific Roots and Double Kick print none.

Privates in print are $150 a lesson at King Tiger, length unstated; $180 for 45 minutes at 8Tribe; and $105 or $120 at PTC.

The FY 2026 GSA lodging ceiling for San Diego County is $199 a night before tax, and $237 in June and July. Meals are $86. That is a cap, not a hotel quote. A training month is a lease. HUD’s FY 2026 Fair Market Rent for San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad is $2,459 for one bedroom and $3,001 for two. Voucher rents use ZIP-code figures, so this is a benchmark, not the unit next door.

No survey says where fighters stay. Kearny Mesa covers King Tiger and Double Kick. Pacific Heights covers Pacific Roots. Sports Arena Boulevard covers The Arena and 8Tribe. La Jolla covers PTC. Stay next to the gym.

How to choose a gym

• Match the price to the product. Weekday Muay Thai at $300 is not a multi-sport membership at $160.
• Ask the length of a private. Only 8Tribe and PTC print minutes.
• Use the $20 day, a free class, or 30 free days before a longer plan.
• Ask if sparring is separate. The Arena lists it apart from fundamentals.
• Check the drive among Kearny Mesa, Pacific Heights, Sports Arena, and La Jolla.
