Methodology

These ranks are an editorial selection from the Muay Thai Atlas gym file for this city. They are not a mathematical index and they are not a fresh scrape of Google. Every gym below appears in that file. Gyms outside the file were not added.

The same weights were used in every city:

• Muay Thai specialism (30). A programme built around Muay Thai ranks ahead of a general MMA, boxing, karate or jiu-jitsu school that lists Muay Thai as one class among several.
• Coaching pedigree (25). Named head coaches, Thai krus and documented lineages, taken from a gym website or a reputable article. Coaches who were not named on a page reviewed here are not guessed.
• Fight-team evidence (20). Titles, stadiums and results only where a cited page states them.
• Google rating and review volume (15). Copied from the source gym file, last verified 2026-09-28. They were not re-measured for this article.
• Beginner access and published price (10). Kids or beginner classes, and any price printed in the gym file or on a cited page.

A high review count does not by itself outrank a specialist gym with a documented coach. Where a city has fewer than ten gyms with a credible public footprint, the list is shorter.

1. The Griphouse

Area: not recorded

Best for: fighters

Co-founder Guy Ramsay is named as head coach of Muay Thai and MMA, a veteran of more than 20 pro Muay Thai fights, and a coach of Scottish, British, European and world titleholders. Co-founder Paul McVeigh's page lists Cage Warriors world titles at bantamweight and featherweight. The about page says the gym, started in 2005, has won national, European and world titles across jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and MMA. It is an MMA gym with a real striking coach, which is why it leads Glasgow even though it is not Muay Thai-only. The kids page lists Muay Thai for ages 5 to 15. 2. Glasgow Thai Boxing Academy

Area: Whitecrook

Best for: beginners

A West End community club whose timetable names Mark Hendrie, Stacey Hendrie, Leanne McDonald, Kenlyne McCourt, Craig Flown and Gary Thermo. It publishes junior classes, a first class free, and low walk-up prices: £5 standard, £4 concession, £3 junior. The site says it trains novices through to champion fighters and does not publish those champions' records. Specialism and a named coaching rota put it next to the Griphouse. The gym file places it in Whitecrook. The Google rating copied from that file is 5 from 34 reviews. A price is not recorded in the gym file.

Area: Oatlands

Best for: kids

The site leads with a six-week beginner course, then mixed-level classes, kids from 3 to 13 split into Tiger Tots and Tigers, and a women-only session on Wednesdays. The source file lists Basic, Standard and Unlimited prices. No coach is named on the homepage reviewed here, so pedigree is unscored. The beginner and kids path is unusually clear.
