Training on smoky days
- On yellow days most people train as usual. If the index is orange or red, ask your camp whether it trains indoors, moves sessions to the cleaner morning hours, or swaps runs for gym work.
- UK guidance for its own air index (Met Office) says people with lung or heart conditions should consider cutting hard outdoor exercise when pollution is up, and that anyone with a cough, sore throat or sore eyes should ease off outdoors. The Thai bands are not the same scale, so use them as a guide only.
- If you have asthma or a heart or lung condition, follow your own doctor's advice and bring your inhaler.
- Chiang Mai and the north usually have their smoky season from about February to April, when farm burning and forest fires peak. Check the live reading before you book dates.
