Muay Thai stretching

Last reviewed 10 Oct 2026

The NHS warm-up page, reviewed 24 June 2026, says its routine should take at least 6 minutes, and says to stop if you feel pain or become unwell. That is general exercise advice. This page does not add a Muay Thai stretch sequence, and it does not claim a stretch cures an injury.

Key facts:

  • NHS routine: at least 6 minutes. Reviewed 24 June 2026. Next review 24 June 2029.
  • Stop immediately if you feel pain or become unwell. 111 if symptoms worry you.
  • Get GP advice first if you are injured, unwell, pregnant or recently gave birth, or unsure.
  • Class habits such as easy teeps are coaching, not a treatment protocol.

Warm up, then train

What we will copy from the NHS, and nothing past it

The page says the routine should take at least 6 minutes, and that you should warm up for longer if you feel the need. It includes marching on the spot. It says warming up properly before exercising is to prevent injury and to make the workout more effective. It says the exercises suit most people in good health with a reasonable level of fitness, and that they are general exercises, not treatment for a specific cause of pain.

It also says to get advice from a GP before trying them if you are not sure they suit your fitness, if you have a health problem, an injury or symptoms, if you feel unwell, if you have other concerns, or if you are pregnant or have recently given birth. We are not adding a Muay Thai exception to that list.

What a class often does, labelled as coaching

A typical beginner hour starts with something light so the first kick is not the first movement. Hips move. People throw easy teeps. That is a habit coaches use so the technical work has a runway. We have not measured 671 gyms, and we have not published a rep count, a hold time, or a partner stretch. Copying a forum routine here would look like a protocol. It would not be one.

If your gym wants a specific warm-up, do that one. If a movement hurts, stop, including if everyone else is still doing it. The directory can find the gym. It cannot clear you to train.

When this page ends and the NHS pages begin

Soreness in the shins after you have been kicking is a training effect people know. An ankle that will not take your weight is the situation already described on the ankle-supports page, which points at the NHS ankle-pain page and the NHS sprains and strains page, both read on 10 Oct 2026. Those pages are the next stop. We do not advise a support, a tape job, or a stretch as the remedy.

The strength guide is separate and publishes no loads. The at-home guide is separate and is three sessions, not a warm-up. Our 12-week heavy-bag programme is not on sale yet.

FAQs

What stretching should I do for Muay Thai?

Start with the NHS warm-up, reviewed 24 June 2026, which says its routine should take at least 6 minutes. Then do the mobility your coach uses, at the speed they use. We are not printing a Muay Thai sequence with rep counts, because we did not test one. Easy hip movement and easy teeps are class habits. They are coaching, not a treatment we measured.

Does stretching stop injuries?

The NHS page says to warm up properly before exercising to prevent injury. That sentence is theirs, about their general routine. It is not a promise that a hip stretch stops a kick injury, and it is not treatment for a condition you already have. The same page says the exercises are general, and that you should ask a GP first if you are injured, unwell, pregnant or recently gave birth, or unsure.

What if something hurts?

Stop. The NHS wording is to stop immediately if you feel any pain or become unwell, and to use 111 if you are concerned or the symptoms do not go away. An ankle that will not take your weight is the case the ankle guide already sends to the NHS ankle-pain and sprain pages. Shin soreness after kicking a bag is ordinary training. Swelling, or pain that stops normal activities, is not a flexibility problem to push through.

Is this the same as the home workout?

No. The home page is three short sessions: shadow, a bag if you have one, and a circuit that is not sparring. This page is only the warm-up boundary. The strength page is a third URL and it also refuses sets and loads. None of the three is medical clearance. If you want a coached hour, the directory lists 671 UK gyms, re-read 10 Oct 2026, and 293 of those listings state beginner classes.
