Methodology

These ranks are an editorial selection from the Muay Thai Atlas gym file for this city. They are not a mathematical index and they are not a fresh scrape of Google. Every gym below appears in that file. Gyms outside the file were not added.

The same weights were used in every city:

• Muay Thai specialism (30). A programme built around Muay Thai ranks ahead of a general MMA, boxing, karate or jiu-jitsu school that lists Muay Thai as one class among several.
• Coaching pedigree (25). Named head coaches, Thai krus and documented lineages, taken from a gym website or a reputable article. Coaches who were not named on a page reviewed here are not guessed.
• Fight-team evidence (20). Titles, stadiums and results only where a cited page states them.
• Google rating and review volume (15). Copied from the source gym file, last verified 2026-09-28. They were not re-measured for this article.
• Beginner access and published price (10). Kids or beginner classes, and any price printed in the gym file or on a cited page.

A high review count does not by itself outrank a specialist gym with a documented coach. Where a city has fewer than ten gyms with a credible public footprint, the list is shorter.

1. The Knowlesy Academy

Area: Burnt Oak

Best for: fighters

This is a Muay Thai academy, not a multi-style MMA club. Head coach Christian Knowles's page lists an IFMA world title, more than 50 fights, and says he has trained four world champions, four European champions and 14 British and English champions. Coach Lyndon Knowles's gym page lists a long set of UK and international titles, and his ONE Championship profile says he won three WBC Muay Thai world championships and names Christian as trainer to Jonathan Haggerty. The Burnt Oak timetable publishes adult Muay Thai, a kids class and a fighting class. That combination of a named fight team and a pure Muay Thai programme is why it leads London. 2. MSA Hammersmith Muay Thai

Chief instructor Kru Cory Smith is presented as an MTQ level 2 instructor who trained for more than 25 years under Grandmaster Sken and co-founded this Master Sken Academy branch in January 2024. The site places the gym in the lineage of Grandmaster Sken, Grandmaster Toddy and Grandmaster Woody, who it says brought Muay Thai to the UK in 1977. It is a dedicated Muay Thai and Muay Boran academy rather than a general MMA gym. Review volume is still small, so the rank rests on lineage and specialism, not on popularity. 3. LionHeart Muay Thai Academy

Best for: beginners

The academy describes itself as a traditional Muay Thai and Muay Boran club for adults and children in Shepherd's Bush and Hammersmith, and as a branch of Muay Thai Masters Academy. Its instructor page says Kru LionHeart has nearly 30 years in martial arts, was graded 12th khan by Master Arjan V, and was graded Kru in Thailand by Grandmaster Woody. Student comments on the site describe beginner-friendly classes. A career fight record is not published, so none is implied here. An area is not recorded in the gym file. 4. Karova Muay Thai

Area: Archway

Best for: beginners

Karova is a Muay Thai club in Islington. The site names Paul Karova as head coach for group classes, invitation sparring and private lessons, with another coach listed only as Phil. It publishes a simple price, £12 a class or £100 for 10 classes, and separates general sessions from advanced sparring. That is a clear beginner path at a specialist club. Founded in 1994, with a Wembley headquarters and a Canary Wharf branch, this is a full MMA gym rather than a Muay Thai specialist. The about page says the same head coaches teach beginners and the pro fighter programme, and that specialist coaches cover boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai kickboxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The team page names Alexis Demetriades and Marios Demetriades as head coaches and a long list of pro fighters as assistant coaches, including Michael Page. It does not publish those records on the team page, so they are not repeated here. The rank reflects the documented fight-team bench, behind the specialist Muay Thai rooms.
