The Chicago Muay Thai scene

Muay Thai in Chicago is spread across neighborhood gyms. Three of them print both an address and a price.

Aiki Training Hall, 4043 N. Ravenswood Avenue, Suite 120, says Ajarn Chai Sirisute introduced Rick Sollo to Muay Thai in the early 1980s. Sherwin Millon, who the about page says trained at Sangtiennoi and fought at Lumpinee, teaches there. Groups are small. There is no drop-in; a trial is booked by contact.

Chicago Mixed Martial Arts teaches Muay Thai with Brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA. One membership covers 1528 N. Halsted Street, which the gym calls Lincoln Park, and 110 E. Cermak Road in the South Loop. Adults can try seven days for $49.

Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club says it has been in the city since 2011. A city license lists Sick Gear Inc. at 2271 N. Clybourn Avenue. The club’s site says it runs more than 50 classes a week with 13 instructors, in 5,000 square feet with a 16-foot ring. Prime Fight Promotions, in Lisle, runs amateur Muay Thai shows in Illinois and Indiana.

When to go

O’Hare’s 1991–2020 normals, from the Illinois State Climatologist, show an annual average high of 59.5°F and a low of 43.0°F. January is 31.6°F and 18.8°F, with 11.3 inches of snow. July is 84.5°F and 66.4°F. Precipitation is 37.86 inches a year and snow is 38.4 inches. May is the wettest month, at 4.49 inches. Lake Michigan cools summer afternoons, and the page says many people prefer spring and fall.

September’s normal high is 75.5°F and October’s is 62.7°F, the easier months for roadwork. ESPN’s 2026 UFC schedule has no Chicago show. Romeoville lists Prime Fight Night 28 on October 24, 2026, 6:00–11:00 p.m., at 55 Phelps Avenue. Engine’s average hotel rate that month is $293.

What it costs

Prices below are what each gym prints. They are not a city average.

Aiki charges $130 a month on a three-month contract, $150 month to month, and $660 prepaid for six months. A personal session is $75, with the length unstated. Chicago MMA’s Muay Thai unlimited plan is $200 a month. All-access is $250 month to month, or $200 a month for 12 months with a $250 early-exit fee. One class is $25, a day pass is $50, and ten classes are $250. Three months prepaid is $650, or $520 if bought by September 30, 2026. The adult week is $49. A 20 percent discount covers students, teachers, police, fire, paramedics, military, and social workers.

At 2271 N. Clybourn, month-to-month dues are $179–$199 and a six-month minimum is $152–$169. Ten classes are $299. The trial deposit is $50, refunded if you attend or cancel 12 hours ahead. Undergraduates with an ID can get 20 percent off. Month-to-month cancellation needs 72 hours’ email; a six-month plan needs 30 days. The gym will not pause either plan.

A published month runs from $130 to $250, and the only printed private is $75. Engine’s cheapest public hotel rates, from May 2024 through April 2026, average $233 a night: $127 in January, $319 in June, $274–$319 from May through October, and $208 in November. Those are advertised rates, not a final bill.

Where fighters stay

No listing says where fighters stay. Aiki is in Ravenswood. Chicago MMA calls Halsted its Lincoln Park room and Cermak its South Loop room. The Clybourn club names Logan Square, Wicker Park, the West Loop, and Ravenswood as the approach.

Apartments.com’s June 2026 one-bedroom averages are $1,544 in Ravenswood, $2,586 in Lincoln Park, and $2,801 in the West Loop. RentCafe’s August 31, 2026 West Loop one-bedroom is $2,323, from a different set of listings. Thirty January hotel nights at $127 are about $3,810, still above the Ravenswood one-bedroom. Thirty September nights at $300 are about $9,000.

How to choose a gym

• Aiki has no drop-in. Clybourn sells a 10-class pack or a deposited trial. Chicago MMA sells a $25 class and a $50 day.
• The low monthly number often has a term. Aiki’s $130 needs three months. Chicago MMA’s $200 all-access rate needs a year and a $250 exit fee.
• Only Aiki prints a private, at $75, and it does not say how many minutes.
• October 24’s show is in Romeoville, not inside any of these rooms. Chicago MMA is the gym that also sells grappling at two addresses.
