Muay Thai Chiang Mai: Gyms, Prices and Fight Nights
Muay Thai Chiang Mai splits between the Old City, village camps and stadiums open most nights.
The Chiang Mai Muay Thai scene
Santai Muay Thai, 79 Moo 9, Sankamphaeng, trains twice a day Monday to Saturday and aims for about one trainer per three or four students. Hongthong Muay Thai, in Mueang Chiang Mai, is about 6.7 km from Central Chiang Mai and 2.9 km from the railway station. Groups run morning and afternoon on those six days, in Thai and English.
Inside or beside the moat, Chiangmai Muay Thai Gym is at 76 Wiang Kaew Road and Thaphae Muay Thai Gym is on Tha Phae Road, between the Old City and the Night Bazaar. Lanna Muay Thai, 177 Tha Wang Tan, Saraphi, holds a two-hour class at 08:00 and 16:00, Monday to Saturday. Krudam, on Bunrueang Rit Road, lists classes seven days a week.
A guide updated on 7 September 2026 names six stadiums. Chiangmai Boxing Stadium, north of the Old City, is the largest and the only air-conditioned one. Thaphae, open since 1955, is the only stadium inside the Old City, by Tha Phae Gate. Kalare is in the night bazaar towards the Ping River. Loi Kroh runs on fewer nights. Pavilion and Anusarn were marked closed in some months.
When to go
The city is about 300 metres up, dry from November to April and wet from roughly mid-May to October. January’s 1991–2020 mean is 22.6°C (15.1–30°C). April, the hottest month, averages 29.8°C (22.9–36.7°C), and days can pass 40°C. August is about 225 mm over 21 days, September about 200 mm over 17 days, and the year about 1,125 mm. December and January are the least hot.
From January to early May, crop-burning smoke adds to pollution in the mountain-ringed plain. Santai and Hongthong close on Sunday. Krudam and Thaphae Muay Thai Gym do not.
Chiangmai Boxing Stadium is Monday to Saturday, 21:00–23:00, six or seven bouts: 600 baht grandstand, 1,000 baht ringside, 1,500 baht VIP. Thaphae matches those nights and prices, from 21:00 to about 23:30, doors 20:30, about seven bouts. Kalare is Monday to Saturday, 21:00 until midnight, usually six or seven fights, at 600 and 1,000 baht. Sunday is off.
What it costs
A group session is 400 baht at Hongthong and for Lanna’s two-hour class, 450 baht for 90 minutes at Thaphae Muay Thai Gym (800 baht for up to three groups) and 600 baht for 90 minutes at Krudam. Santai is 700 baht for both sessions in a day, 3,500 a week and 11,000 a month. Hongthong is 8,000 baht for one session a day, 11,000 for two, and 13,000 with a room on the one-session month. Training-only months here are 8,000–11,000 baht.
Privates are 600 baht an hour for Santai students and 800 for drop-ins, 800–1,000 baht for 60 minutes at Thaphae Muay Thai Gym and Chiangmai Muay Thai Gym, and 1,326–1,500 baht for 90 minutes at Sting Club and Krudam. Santai rooms include training from 4,000 baht a week. A scooter is 200 baht a day or 2,500 a month.
Early-2026 leases put Old City and Santitham studios at 6,000–9,000 baht, Nimman one-bedrooms at 15,000–22,000 and Night Bazaar one-bedrooms at 11,000–18,000, plus about 1,200–2,500 baht in utilities. November to February is about 10–20% dearer.
Where fighters stay
San Kamphaeng suits Santai’s rooms, which include training. Saraphi suits Lanna if you can ride. The Old City is walkable to Thaphae Stadium and Chiangmai Muay Thai Gym, though guesthouses outnumber long leases. Santitham and Chang Phueak, north of the moat, are the cheaper long-stay band. Nimman costs more and is about eight minutes by scooter from the Old City. The Night Bazaar side is the base for Kalare and Loi Kroh.
How to choose a gym
- Check whether the fee is one session, both sessions or a day, and how long it lasts.
- The Old City avoids a commute. San Kamphaeng and Saraphi do not.
- A private is 600–1,500 baht. The dearer slots last 90 minutes.
- From January to early May, check the air before outdoor running.
- A camp price may include the room. A city lease does not.
