Best Muay Thai gyms in New York City

Methodology

These ranks are an editorial selection from the Muay Thai Atlas gym file for this city. They are not a mathematical index and they are not a fresh scrape of Google. Every gym below appears in that file. Gyms outside the file were not added.

The same weights were used in every city:

• Muay Thai specialism (30). A programme built around Muay Thai ranks ahead of a general MMA, boxing, karate or jiu-jitsu school that lists Muay Thai as one class among several.
• Coaching pedigree (25). Named head coaches, Thai krus and documented lineages, taken from a gym website or a reputable article. Coaches who were not named on a page reviewed here are not guessed.
• Fight-team evidence (20). Titles, stadiums and results only where a cited page states them.
• Google rating and review volume (15). Copied from the source gym file, last verified 2026-09-28. They were not re-measured for this article.
• Beginner access and published price (10). Kids or beginner classes, and any price printed in the gym file or on a cited page.

A high review count does not by itself outrank a specialist gym with a documented coach. Where a city has fewer than ten gyms with a credible public footprint, the list is shorter.

1. Lions Roar Muay Thai

Area: Bronx

Best for: fighters

Kru William Rivera is named as head trainer of Lions Roar and as a New York pioneer who first trained at Sor Thanikul in Bangkok in 1989 under Lome Ernoi Sor Thanikul. The about page says he has held that role since 1990. The Bronx site publishes classes from age 5 and a $200 membership. Matthew Rivera is the other named instructor. Area: New York

Best for: fighters

Brandon Levi founded the gym in 2006 after competing in Australia and Thailand. The instructor page gives him more than 25 years across Muay Thai, boxing, jiu-jitsu and karate, and it names active coaches Brian Kemsley, Frantz Pierre and Jhon Robinson with specific amateur titles, including Frantz's 2023 WBC 135 lb title. The about page says founder John Pina is a professional fighter and multiple world champion with K-1, Glory and Muay Thai titles, without listing each belt or a win-loss record. The Lower East Side site says the gym teaches authentic Muay Thai for complete beginners and experienced veterans. A Gymdesk interview with founders Justin Troy, James Villa and Dillan Joucoo describes more than 30 and more than 40 amateur fights between Troy and Joucoo, and a simple three-friend welcome for new members. Staten Island gym open since 2013, described as a dedicated Muay Thai room. Owner Vinny Scotto is credited with more than 20 years in the art. The site publishes youth, junior, teen and adult programmes from age 5, and names Nate Good, Ryan Enderes and Julian Ansah. A three-class starter is $29.95. Lower East Side Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu gym with a high rating and a large review count. The homepage reviewed here gives hours and address and does not name the Muay Thai coaches, so pedigree is unscored. Best for: kids

Brooklyn school with the largest review count in the New York file. The site publishes kids and adult Muay Thai kickboxing alongside judo and jiu-jitsu, and it is written as a family martial-arts school rather than a fight camp. Student comments name Omar and Ali, but those are reviews, not a coaching biography, so they are not entered as records. Best for children and fitness. The gym file places it in Brooklyn.
